The government has said that the 2015 federal election would be the last “first-past-the-post” election. This gives us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change the federal electoral system. Canada’s MPs have been given the task of collecting feedback from constituents on potential electoral reform, and are due to report back to Parliament in the fall with results. Have your say on how Canada’s electoral system should change!

University of Alberta Political Science Professor Ian Urquhart and a representative from the Edmonton chapter of Fair Vote Canada will join us at the town hall to explain various electoral systems and help answer questions.

You can find information about electoral reform from advocacy organizations:
• Fair Vote Canada
• The Broadbent Institute
• Leadnow

You can see the Special Committee on Electoral Reform’s guidebooks and listen to hearings on its website.

Watch a video by Dennis Pilon, Associate Professor, Political Science, York University, about Mixed Member Proportional Representation.

You can take my survey on electoral reform as well.

You can download my handout and Dr. Urquhart's handout from the townhall.

Check the Special Committee on Electoral Reform’s schedule of cross-country consultations. The committee is scheduled to be in Leduc, Alberta on Thursday, September 29.
There is also a link where you can request to appear before the committee. Requests to appear must be submitted by October 7, 2016.

See the event listing on Facebook. Please invite your neighbours to this important meeting!

Edmonton Transit routes 4, 7, 52, 94 and 327 run close to the meeting location. There is street parking available nearby, plus paid parking in the lot at 104 St/84 Ave.
