CONSERVATIVE DO-NOTHING BUDGET FAILS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALBERTANS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA - There is little in the Conservatives budget to support a more diversified economy and nothing significant to address youth unemployment, according to NDP MP Linda Duncan (Edmonton-Strathcona), Critic for Western Economic Diversification for the Official Opposition.

“It’s particularly disappointing that there’s no targeted money for municipal infrastructure, especially transit,” said Duncan. “The Conservatives ignored the NDP’s practical, low-cost solutions, including restoring the popular ecoEnergy Retrofit – Homes tax credit, reining in credit card rate and capping ATM fees.  Although there is new funding for research and development for universities and technical schools, it’s inadequate.”

Duncan added, “There’s little for Canada’s veterans.  The Government had a real opportunity to listen to them and show respect for their sacrifice, but chose not to.”

“Instead of taking action now to help Albertans who are struggling to make ends meet, Conservatives are delaying real help until 2015 when it serves their political ends best.”
