All Aboard Linda Duncan’s VoteMobiles

Edmonton – Linda Duncan’s campaign in Edmonton-Strathcona is encouraging youth voting by providing rides to the Returning Office. On April 11, 12 and 13 campaign volunteers will drive shuttles from all three university campuses in Edmonton-Strathcona.

“The timing of this election means that many post secondary students will already be out of Edmonton-Strathcona by Election Day. The advance polls are on Easter weekend and not very conveniently located, so we’re making it easier for students to vote in this riding,” said Duncan, who is seeking re-election.

“Elections Canada has committed to making additional efforts to get out the student vote. An obvious measure, given that Election Day is after most students have left, would have been to establish advance polls on campuses.”

U of A student and NDP Campus Group executive member Aditya Rao is setting up a table at SUB and will coordinate shuttles from there. “The key goal is to get students voting. Any students, no matter who they’re voting for, can catch a ride,” said Rao of the shuttles going to the Returning Office (Argyll Centre, 6325 Gateway Blvd.) where eligible voters can cast their ballot any Monday to Saturday until April 26th.” Students at Campus Saint Jean are being asked to call the nearby campaign office for a ride on those days.

The King’s University College graduate, Geoff Brouwer, is visiting his campus’s residences to alert students of the shuttle times from that location. “Not many students seem to know about their voting options. I’m glad Linda Duncan and her team are doing something about it,” he said.
